We're more than just a local shop
For over 150 years, Grosmont Co-operative Society has been at the heart of Grosmont village, providing everything from fresh local produce such as artisan bread, fine cheeses and fruit and vegetables to everyday groceries, household essentials, post office services and much more.
Founded in 1867, we are proud to be the oldest independent co-op in the UK. Over the decades, we’ve adapted to changing times – welcoming customers from the days of horse-drawn carriages to the era of electric scooters. We’ve stood strong through two world wars, a global pandemic and ever-evolving shopping habits, always staying true to our commitment to quality and community.

Treasure Trove Pop-Up Shop Opens to Support the Community and Co-op
In response to challenging times, a local community initiative launched the Treasure Trove pop-up shop in the former Grosmont Bookshop, just a few doors down from the Co-op. Filled with donated goods - including preloved clothing, household items, bric-a-brac, toys, and books - the shop offers affordable finds while raising essential funds.
All proceeds go towards ensuring the beloved Grosmont Co-op remains open for years to come, reinforcing the spirit of community and mutual support.
