Make a difference

Join our volunteering team

Our shop is run by a dedicated team of paid staff working alongside an extraordinary group of volunteers from the local community. Each person brings unique skills, experiences, and enthusiasm, creating a welcoming space for shoppers while securing the shop’s future.

Volunteering is essential to keeping Grosmont’s community shop thriving. By giving your time, you help ensure that profits from sales can be reinvested into maintaining and improving the shop for everyone’s benefit.

Beyond keeping the shelves stocked and the tills ringing, our shop has become an integral part of village life – a place to meet, connect, and support one another. Our volunteers are essential to the success of the shop, and whether you can spare a few hours a week or just help out occasionally, your contribution will make a real difference.

Join us and be part of something truly special!

Our volunteers come from all walks of life – teenagers, full-time workers, parents with young children who help during school hours, and retirees with plenty of time to give. All you need is your enthusiasm and a little bit of time!

You can volunteer as often or as little as you like – we appreciate any time you can give. If you’re unable to commit to a regular shift, that’s not a problem. Every bit of help makes a difference.

As a volunteer, you’ll be involved in a variety of tasks that help keep the co-op running smoothly. This includes working on the till, unpacking and receiving deliveries, stacking shelves, and labelling products. You’ll also help check stock levels and engage with customers, providing excellent service and support.

In addition to shop work, there are plenty of other volunteering opportunities in areas like marketing, maintenance (such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work), cleaning, ordering, fundraising, and event planning. There’s a role for everyone, depending on your skills and interests.

We encourage volunteers to share their ideas and contribute to the ongoing development of the co-op. There’s a role for everyone, and we’ll match you with tasks based on your skills and interests.
