How do I become a member?

Becoming a member is simple. Just complete the Membership Request Form on this page, and we'll get in touch with you. Alternatively, you can download the form, fill it out, and bring it to our shop on your next visit, or pop in to collect a paper form directly. A £1 membership fee is required with your request.

Each membership application will be reviewed by the committee at its next meeting after submission. If your application is approved, your name, address, and contact details will be added to our member list and register of shareholders. The secretary will confirm or decline applications in writing or by electronic means within one week of the committee meeting.

FAQ

Anyone aged 16 or over can apply to become a member. You don’t need to live in Grosmont to join. Applicants must support the Society’s purpose and objectives, as well as the Co-operative Values and Principles. Read our rule book here.

Being a member means you own a part of the co-op and have a say in how it’s run. You can attend and vote at members’ meetings, help shape the future of the shop, and support local producers by ensuring good-quality produce remains available in the village.

There is no commitment to being actively involved in the shop on a regular basis – membership is simply a way to support and be part of a community-focused, ethical way of doing business.

The Grosmont Co-operative Society shop is a business run by the community, for the community. Its success depends on the support of people like you – those who live and work in Grosmont and the North York Moors area.

By becoming a member, you’re helping to secure the shop’s future, ensuring it continues to provide essential goods, support local producers, and serve as a vital hub for the village.

The more people who get involved, the stronger the co-op becomes. Join today by completing the membership application form and returning it to us!
